The Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) Business Management is a one-year course designed for students who do not quite meet the entry criteria to go directly into year 1 of an undergraduate degree. Please note that this is a FHEQ 120 credit Level 4 qualification.
The course was designed to introduce students to the essentials of business and management and key business concepts. The Cert HE can be a first step towards a business-related degree or as a beneficial stand-alone qualification. For students wishing to continue studying at university on a business and/or management degree, this certificate enables them to progress directly to second-year studies.
The Cert HE equips students with an understanding of business and management equivalent to a level 4 qualification.
The cert HE Business and Management is made up of the following modules and is equal to a total of 120 credits.

Applicants are expected to hold at least 96–104 UCAS points or a recognised equivalent.
Applicants without formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience and successful outcome of application process.
Where applicants do not meet the entry criteria, each application will be assessed on an individual basis with the applicant required to:
- Submit a CV and personal statement
- Attend an internal academic interview and complete an approved English language test (e.g. Duolingo 150)

On successful completion of Certificate of Higher Education in Business Management, students will be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, and concepts in business management studies.
- Demonstrate an understanding of some of the different functional areas of business, such as marketing, finance, and operations.
- Evidence an awareness of current trends and emerging practices in business management, including ethics, responsibility, and sustainability.
- ·Exhibit knowledge and understanding of the role of business leadership and management practices in the effective functioning of organisations.
Subject Specific and Professional Skills (SPS)
- Demonstrate technical skills to communicate information in a professional manner using a range of media, strategies, and channels.
- Develop ability to interpret basic financial data using tools and procedures as appropriate.
- Develop an understanding of the role of entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs, businesses owners, leaders, and managers in society.
- Develop an awareness of the interpersonal skills required for effective leadership and management in a professional context.
- Demonstrate an ability to engage in reflective practice for the purpose of decision making.
Intellectual Skills (IS)
- Develop critical thinking skills to analyse complex business problems, identify patterns, and evaluate different perspectives.
- Demonstrate an ability to apply theoretical concepts and frameworks to practical business situations.
- Demonstrate an ability to analyse and evaluate data and information in a systematic and logical manner.
- Demonstrate the use of initiative to develop proposals for successful business outcomes.
Transferable Skills (TS)
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively to convey information, ideas, problems, and solutions to a range of audiences.
- Demonstrate an ability to evaluate arguments, assumptions, and abstract concepts in order to identify and address business problems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how numerical skills can be used to interpret data in order to make sound judgments in accordance with basic theories and concepts.
- Demonstrate an understanding of responsible and ethical digital literacy and its application.
