The Role

At TLG, we’ve had a huge uptake in student numbers coupled with our new partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) and this demand had led us to opening a new campus in Birmingham and Nottingham, which is in addition to our two campuses in London. As such, we’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Programme Leader to join our team and lead the CertHE Business and Management programme. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with key leaders and staff to design, deliver, teach, and assess the programme. They will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of core modules including Business Management, Financial Management, Digital Business, Marketing, Professional Skills and Organisational Behaviour.

Some Key Responsibilities would be:

- Mentor and line manage academic staff, including Business Management Lecturers, Academic Mentors.
- Collaborate with academic staff to ensure effective delivery of the CertHE programme
- Play a pivotal role in student retention, progression, and submission metrices, contributing to TLG’s widening access and participation commitments.
- Develop holistic approaches to teaching and learning to engage and support students from non-traditional backgrounds.
- Lead the Academic Team in achieving ambitious targets for student success.
- Contribute to the strategic development of TLG.
- Be the lead contact, representing TLG with the external academic stakeholders (partnership)

Role Requirements: 


- Master’s or PhD in a field of Business Management, with evidence of experience and interest in Academic
- Expertise in teaching core modules at the CertHE level, with proficiency in at least one area
- Famillarity with online virtual environments (e.g. CANVAS) and willingness to engage in appropriate training.
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies.
- Commitment to personal and professional development, with a focus of enhancing academic practice and embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ability to teach and engage students online appropriately.
- Ability to plan schemes of work, create teaching and learning materials and design assessments.
- Experience of designing and developing new programmes

Therefore, we’re looking for a Student and Academic Support Officer to join us in a permanent capacity in Nottingham!

The Student and Academic Support Officer will be engaged in performing a clearly defined range of front-facing customer service and administrative tasks. The role holder will have excellent customer service to enhance the experience for all students as well as internal and external stakeholders.

Some of the key responsibilities in the role are:

- This is the first and last point of contact for all students studying at TLG and be responsible for the provision of day-to-day enquiry handling and offer advice and support at the front desk.
- The role holder will work collaboratively with other student support officers as a team to provide basic advice and referral to students.
- The Student and Academic Support Officer ultimately acts as a referral point, to provide students with support, guidance, information, and impartial, confidential advice. This role is a part of TLG HE administration, which reports into the Student Services Manager.

To note, this role will involve working on the weekends.

As such, we’re looking for an Academic Mentor in Business Management to guide and coach our Business Management students, on a wide range of academic and pastoral topics.

Often, academic mentoring sessions can act as a space for dialogic education, where academics and students can discuss students’ studies and their progression. Equally, the role is sometimes just about being an initial contact, listening and empathising, then referring the student on to the correct support service. Our students come from a wide range of different educational backgrounds, and academic mentoring gives them a chance to discuss their experiences with academics to help them succeed whilst with TLG. The mentoring relationship eases students into the academic community and its expectations while offering students a space where they can pose questions or seek advice. By being an initial contact, students have someone they know in a mentorship role to raise questions and concerns. However, that can only happen if the relationship and trust is developed through sustained contact and conversation.

All students will have a mentor to advise on matters, and therefore, expertise in Business Management is a must, particularly in any of the fields of accountancy, finance, and economics. We are more than happy to consider different working patterns, including permanent full-time and part-time opportunities to suit individual needs.

- A subject specialism of business management (accountancy / finance / marketing / economics, etc.)

Our business model requires x2, 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) Business Lecturers on each of our two campuses.

The Business Lecturer will work collaboratively to build strong relationships with the key leaders and the staff of The Language Gallery, delivering high-quality teaching demonstrating an overarching understanding of our core modules: Business Management, Organisational Behaviour, Digital Business, Professional Skills, Marketing, and Finance.

The CertHE is pivotal in students' progression to university courses as part of TLG’s widening access and participation commitments. The role focuses on creating holistic approaches to teaching and learning across subjects, ensuring that the experiences delivered engage, retain and progress students. The Lecturer will bring a combination of academic experience, capabilities and personality to engage diverse students with non-traditional backgrounds. They will be passionate about working with students, colleagues, the college and the wider community with a record of successfully progressing students.

All lecturers are expected to develop and share teaching and learning materials with all associated assessments and teach students in the areas of Business at Level 4. They are expected to convene modules, teach in a variety of settings (including on-campus and online, both in large groups and in seminars), create and mark assessments, provide tutorials and independent study supervision, and fulfil other Lecturer and School responsibilities, including administration, recruitment, and marketing. It is expected that lecturers will be able to teach all core modules at this level. The candidate will demonstrate how their experience and expertise can translate into teaching, curriculum development and programme development.

All lecturers need to work flexibly as part of a team, develop teaching and learning strategies, and contribute to academic quality by pursuing excellence in teaching. The post holder will participate in team meetings, and any training required and work with a hands-on approach to ensure, together with the other Team Members, the administration of TLG HE is smooth and fully compliant.

As such, we’re looking for an Academic Mentor in Business Management to guide and coach our Business Management students, to ensure students are enabled to succeed in their required assessments and submissions in a wide range of academic and pastoral topics, particularly in Business Management.


The post holder will report into the Programme Lead to support successful assignment submissions of the students.


Academic Mentors contribute and develop high quality academic mentoring for a cohort of students in Business Management, supporting, developing and implementing strategies which contribute towards effective learning, behaviour, and achievement throughout the students’ time at the school, which then enhances their attendance, engagement and retention. The Academic Mentors will proactively seek to improve attention, attendance, progression of students at TLG by providing a healthy, safe, happy and challenging environment in which students feel supported and can work hard, free of disruption, develop mutual respect, grow in confidence and achieve their potential.


The post holder will participate in team meetings and any training required and work with a hands-on approach to ensure, together with the other Team Members, the administration of TLG HE is smooth and fully compliant.

The ability to inspire and motivate students is a must.

Requirements


The ideal candidate should be a fully conversant in Business Management and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to support students throughout their journey with us. You will have knowledge of the range of support services available to students and you will be able to adopt an organised and methodical approach to work, to be self-sufficient and self-directed in pursuit of supporting students and achieving targets. You will also have knowledge of awarding body regulations as well as safeguarding to ensure your approach is well within the guidelines at all times.

The Lecturer will bring a combination of academic experience, capabilities and personality to engage diverse students with non-traditional backgrounds. They will be passionate about working with students, colleagues, the college and the wider community with a record of successfully progressing students.

The college delivers each blended course as 2 fully intensive days, with one face-to-face on campus and the second live online. Each lecturer will usually be responsible for one or two groups of students representing a part-time or full-time role. Input consists of lectures, workshops, skills lessons, and tutorials. The teaching approach uses best practices from Chunked Experiential Learning Theory, utilising a flipped classroom format with bespoke reflection engagement points, creating opportunities for personalised learning. This personalisation aids student satisfaction, success and engagement, which in turn aids the development of soft skills offering academic progression and/or employability. There is a possibility of running the programme over two evenings in the week and at the weekend. Candidates may have to teach across evenings and weekends, as determined and discussed at the interview and matched against preference, the workload, and the resource allocation and needs of the business. Full-time staff members are expected to teach to the full teaching load on the CertHE.

Lecturers will have a Master's or PhD in a related area with evidence of experience and interest in lecturing. All lecturers are expected to develop and share teaching and learning materials with all associated assessments and teach students in the areas of Business at Level 4. Familiarity with online virtual environments (CANVAS) is desirable, but appropriate training is provided. Lecturers will need to develop and share content, teach, engage students, and help to broaden awareness of and capability amongst other business lecturers as appropriate.

All lecturers need to work flexibly as part of a team, develop teaching and learning strategies, and contribute to academic quality by pursuing excellence in teaching. All must demonstrate evidence of how they have contributed to a working team, contributing to quality improvement, and how their personality and approach to work benefit those around them. In this role, they will be expected to demonstrate a commitment towards developing their professional practice and contributing to the development of the practice of colleagues. TLG will be supportive of staff development towards these CPD objectives.

The post holder will participate in team meetings, and any training required and work with a hands-on approach to ensure, together with the other Team Members, the administration of TLG HE is smooth and fully compliant.

We are looking for individuals who are progressive, forward-thinking and engage in innovative teaching methods. You will be able to combine traditional classroom teaching with digital tools to engage our diverse range of student in their learning journey!

Ability to inspire and motivate students is a must. Experience of academic and administrative management is desirable.
